From the Power Plant to You --

How Electricity Gets to your Home or Business

1. Electricity is generated at our power plants, and is sent out on high voltage transmission lines. In the Detroit Edison service area, these lines are owned and maintained by the International Transmission Co. (ITC)
2. High voltage transmission lines deliver power to Detroit Edison Substation equipment, which adjusts the electrical voltage so it can be routed to the main distribution lines.
3. Main distribution lines deliver power to large subdivisions and large commercial customers.
4. Overhead (4a) or underground (4b) local distribution lines are fed from these main distribution lines and deliver power to smaller neighborhoods and businesses.
5. Overhead (5a) or underground (5b) service lines then deliver power to individual customer locations.
